
The main objective of the institution is to promote quality education among women, hailing from the backward regions of the state. In consonance with this objective, 60% of the seats at the undergraduate level are reserved for girl students hailing from rural areas. As a positive step in this direction, the college provides hostel facility in the campus

The college is a grant-in-aid institution, affiliated to Osmania University, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. It is centrally located in the city on a campus comprising a 3.5 acre plot with five buildings. There are 45 class rooms, 28 Science labs, and 13 staff rooms. The college libraries have about 50,000 volumes. The college has an Audio Visual Room, and a spacious Auditorium.

The college has 19 departments for U.G. programmes, 5 in Arts, 12 in Science, 1 in Commerce, and 1 in Physical Education. There are 4 departments at P.G. level, 3 in science and 1 in Management. The college offers 33 programmes among which 12 programmes are at U.G., level and 4 programmes at P.G. level are run on self financing basis.
The faculty consists of 46 government aided teachers and 77 un-aided teachers among whom there are 18 with Ph.D. degrees, 11 with M.Phil. degrees and one with M.Tech. degree. The college has 76 non-teaching and support staff. Among them 26 receive government aid. The student enrollment is about 1800 with 800 students in Science, 200 in Arts , 600 in Commerce at undergraduate level and 200 in P.G. programmes.
The college has NCC and NSS units. The sports activities are conducted under the supervision of a Physical Directress. The college encourages meritorious students by awarding gold medals, merit scholarships, rolling shields and cash prizes.
The U.G.C had conferred autonomous status on the college in 1989. It was the first non minority college to have the autonomous status under Osmania University jurisdiction. The College was accredited by NAAC in October 1999.
In the wake of autonomy conferred on the college, it has made innovations in curriculum designing with a view to
