Profile of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics
The Department of Mathematics in R.B.V.R.R Women’s College was established in the year 1962 with only one member and handful of students at PUC level.
Progression:
In the year 1965 the Department offered Maths, Physics, Chemistry combination for B.Sc. I Year E/M and later for B.Sc. I Year T/M also.
During the year 196970 the MPC combination was introduced for intermediate students in both English & Telugu media.
Autonomy enabled the department to introduce a new combination Maths, Physics, Computers at the B.Sc. level during the year 198990.The Department has also designed the syllabus for Mathematics as an additional subject for Degree I year nonMaths students.
The syllabus for B.Sc. I years is recast as per Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in 201213.
Statistics
During the year 199596 the Department of Mathematics introduced Statistics as one of the optionals at U.G. level. A new combination with Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science was offered at B.Sc. level
Inter disciplinary papers:
Discrete Mathematics is taught for
BCA and M.Sc.(Computer Science) courses which were introduced during the year 199899.
 B.Sc. ( Bio Informatics) – Semester – II
Business Mathematics is taught for
 BBMT (I Year )
Activities
The Department of Mathematics has many areas of interest, in a wide range of topics. In order to expose the students to the expertise of the Academia and industry the department of Mathematics conducts extension lectures, seminars and workshops. Industry interactions are the general activities. To suit the emerging needs of the society the department redesigned the curriculum for the existing courses. Final year students of B.Sc. Mathematics are made to undertake project work as one of the practical papers.
Faculty members extend their services as experts and consultants. Faculty members actively contribute to deliver the Extension lectures in other colleges.

Innovative Practices
The innovative program of Practicals in Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics started in the year 200506 with the idea of making use of Information Technology in teaching Mathematics. Our college is the first college in Andhra Pradesh to introduce practicals in Mathematics using software Mathematica at under graduate level. The goal of the practicals in Mathematics is to help students learn how to use Mathematica to solve problems arising in their fields of study such as Mathematics, Physics and Computers. Department has taken the initiative to introduce to the Telugu medium students, Baraha software which is compatible with Mathematica software.
A Mathematics Lab was established with 5 computer systems loaded with the software Mathematica. The number of systems was increased gradually to 30 all of which are installed with the software to help all the students to work on the systems comfortably.
Mission
The Mission of the department is to integrate technology into teaching Mathematics, to ensure that the students of Mathematics become TechSavvy, orient the students for Research, train the students to present seminars of the projects , especially make Telugu medium students confident by allowing them to give presentations in Telugu.
Employability
The department prepares the students to choose career in IT firms, Banking, Teaching and the like.
Programs offered by the Department with Mathematics Combination
B.Sc
1. Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry ( Eng Medium & Telugu Medium).
2. Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science (Eng Medium)
3. Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science (Eng Medium)
4. Mathematics, Electronics, Computer Science (Eng Medium)
M.Sc. Pure Mathematics
M.Sc. Mathematics is introduced in the year 200506. Admissions for M.Sc. is through the Common Entrance Test Conducted by Osmania University.
About the Department
→ The Department has steadily grown into a dynamic centre offering mathematics as an interdisciplinary subject in BioSciences and Computer Science.
→ To suit the emerging needs of the society the department redesigned the curriculum for the existing courses.
→ In this era of globalization and knowledge explosion, with the idea of introducing technology into teaching Mathematics the department introduced practicals in Mathematics at the undergraduate level using the software Mathematica in the year 200506.
