Profile

The Department of Computer Science at undergraduate level was established in the year 1989 with one Computer Laboratory having 7 Systems. Post Graduation programmes were introduced in the year 1994, starting with PGDMISCA ( Post graduation diploma in Management Information Systems with Computer Application.

Presently, there are about 8 Computer Labs to cater to all the courses in the college. The department is having well qualified and experienced faculty members. The faculty is a perfect blend of different specializations in Computer Science to impart their expertise in handling diversified courses of the UG and PG programs. The ICT teaching methods are efficiently used by the staff. The teaching methodology in the department goes beyond fulfilling the syllabus requirements to meet the current industry needs. Apart from the academic course curriculum, the students of computer science are provided with add-on, IDE and certificate courses to enhance the student’s employability skills. Technical seminars are conducted based on IEEE papers, which will help them to enhance the quality in presenting papers and pursuing Projects.  Faculty motivates and guides the students to do mini projects in core subjects and real time major Projects. Special focus is imparted to develop Communication and Soft Skills. The department is having strong association with industries to uplift the student’s practical knowledge.

The department acts as a center for the planning, maintenance and development of the IT infrastructure of the entire college. As part of its role, it estimates the need for the computers, hardware and network facility. It performs the functions of the procurement, identification of vendors and implementation of AMC’s.

The department also assists the college with the web site maintenance, sending information to students through Bulk SMS, entering and updating staff details in Bio-metric system, monthly maintenance of ESIC for both college and hostel staff, and Feedback Analysis.  The department aids the support for the Curricular and co-curricular activities in the college.

  • To enhance practical skills.
  • The Department has well-equipped laboratories with latest technologies to enhance the skill set of both Faculty and Students.
  • The graduates produced would be globally recognized as innovative and well-prepared computing professionals.

  • Promote knowledge and value based education through academic excellence by constantly striving to bring in good curriculum design.
  • To train for self employment through job oriented courses such as DTP and others.
  • To inculcate spirit of leadership among the students by encouraging students to participate in NCC, NSS and also to act as CR’s, counselors, student advisors.

Progression

Under autonomy the Department of Computer Science got started with one lab and a single course combination. Today it has grown both infrastructural wise and course combination wise. Today a total of five combinations (MPCs, MSCs, MEC’s,B.Com Computers and B.Com (Regular)) are run by the department. Today, a well qualified team of faculty members caters to the diversified teaching needs of the students whose strength is 1145.

Activities:

Fest

  • Organized a Two Day Fest “COMMIT” on 30th, 31st December 2013.

Guest lecturers

  • Lecture on Omni Police Application an initiative of state police, Dee Cee Security Systems Pvt. Ltd. To improve the response time of police and relief services to the vulnerable sections of the society by Mr. Rahul Jain,VP ,Dee Cee.
  • Lecture on Software development Methodologies by Raghavendra, Manager Choice Solutions.

Laboratories Details:

Department has 4 well equipped labs with a total of 109 Systems. The department adds and upgrades the hardware/software resources in each academic year in the labs with Pentium IVs, Dual Cores, Core2Duos, Core i5s and its accessories (Laser printers, all-in-one printer, LCD Projector) with LAN connectivity in 4 labs and they are now loaded with Win 7 and Office 2007, 2010 and latest versions of software such as Java 6th Edition, Oracle 11g, Visual Studio.Net 2010, Adobe Page Maker 7.0, Coral Draw etc.

Innovations:

  1. The topic ADO.NET (ActiveX Data Object) was introduced in Elective I: .Net Architecture and XML in Elective II:-Web technologies in the academic year 2013-14
  2. Operating System and Software Engineering were given as electives under paper-VII for B.Sc III year students in the academic year 2014-15.
  3. Power Point Presentation, Video Lectures and Student Technical Seminars are conducted frequently.
  4. Certificate Course “DTP” was introduced in the year 2004, “Tally” in the year 2007 and “Graphics and Animation” in the year 2012 for the benefit and employability of students.
