COLLEGE PROFILE



The college was established in the year 1954 by Hyderabad Mahila Vidya Sangham. The foundation stone of the college was laid by Sri.Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, and the college building was inaugurated by Dr.S.Radha Krishnan the Vice President of India on 6th January 1955. The main aim of starting the college was to encourage girls from the educationally backward Telangana district to pursue higher studies. Towards this end a hostel building was constructed in the college premises and it was inaugurated by Smt.Indira Gandhi. The college has the unique honour of having His Excellency, The President of India, Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam as the chief guest to deliver the Valedictory Address for the Golden Jubilee celebrations in August 2005.

The college was granted autonomous status in 1989 by the UGC. Autonomy enabled the college to restructure the existing syllabi and to introduce several need-based courses related to upcoming subjects like Biotechnology, Computer Science, Microbiology and Medical Lab Technology. Presently the college offers 32 programmes of which 7 are at Intermediate level 21 at UG and 4 at PG level. Several Certificate Courses have been introduced to meet the emerging needs of society.

The college has been Accredited with Grade ¡¥A¡¦ by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in January 2006.

GUIDELINES FOR ADMISSION
FILLING UP THE APPLICATION FORM :

1.Application form for admission should be filled in properly and legibly by the candidate.
2.The candidate will be held personally responsible for any incorrect information. The college reserves the right to cancel the admission at any stage if the particulars furnished by the candidate are found to be incorrect.
3.Indicate the combination code number as given in the Prospectus while filling in the optionals you propose to take.
4. Incomplete application forms will be summarily rejected.
5. The college reserves the right to cancel the admission if any admission is found to be against the rules.
6.Apply on separate forms for each Faculty / Medium.
7.Candidate will be considered for admission under the District quota provided their parents are natives of Telangana Area.


SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FORM FOR ADMISSION

1.Application form must be registered in the college on or before the prescribed date announced by the college.
2.Candidates should submit their application forms along with duly attested Xerox copies of the following certificates.
i)Memorandum of marks obtained in the qualifying examination.
ii)Transfer certificate from the institution where the candidate studied last
iii)Intermediate or equivalent certificate as the case may be indicating the medium of instruction and date of birth.
iv)Migration Certificate for those students qualifying from any University other than Osmania University.
v)Certificates issued by the respective Junior College(s) to determine the local Status of the candidate.
vi)Nativity certificate from Mandal Revenue Officer to be submitted by the candidate to prove their nativity for consideration under the Dist. quota
vii) Caste Certificate in case of B.C., S.C., and S.T. Candidates.
viii) Certificates in support of their claim for admission against Sports / N.C.C / Extra Curricular Activities (at State and National level only) Ex-service men and Physically Handicapped quota.
viii) Income certificate of the Parent for the current year from the M.R.O.

Note : Candidates are advised to obtain a duly signed acknowledgment slip bearing the Registration Number for further reference, after submitting the application for admission.

RULES OF ADMISSION:

i) Sixty percent (60% ) of the available seats in any course of study provided in the college shall be reserved in favour of the candidates who have studied in Osmania/Kakatiya University areas for a minimum period of 4 years immediately preceding the year of admission and whose parent is native of Telengana District.(Nativity Certificates issued by the concerned Mandal Revenue Office alone shall be the basis for deciding the nativity of the parent).
ii) The remaining 40% seats shall remain open for the candidates who have studied in recognised institutions of Osmania / Kakatiya University area for a period not less than 4 consecutive academic years preceding the year of admission.
iii) The admission under each of the above two clauses shall be subject to observing the statutory and other reservations prescribed by the Government. However in case of non-availability of eligible candidates of any category under any of the clauses (i) & (ii) the candidates eligible for admission from the other category shall be considered for admission so as to maintain the overall percentage of statutory reservations prescribed by the Government.

PROVISIONAL LIST OF ADMISSIONS:

A list of candidates provisionally selected will be put up on the College Notice Board. Selected candidates should submit their original certificates and collect duly signed Bank challans from the college office. The fee should be paid in Canara Bank/ AndhraBank, Narayaguda Branches, Hyderabad before the stipulated date indicated on the challans issued by the office. The admission card should be collected from the Examination Branch by submitting the fee challans with in a week¡¦s time from the date of submission.

Selected candidates should submit their Original Certificates and Provisional Certificates for scrutiny before payment of fees. Mere payment of fees through challan in the bank will not entitle the student a seat in the college.

If the fee paid challan is not submitted in the office on or before the last date of admission the candidate will forfeit the seat.
Note :
1. The fee once paid shall not be refunded whether the student attends classes or not. This shall not apply to refundable deposits.
2. Medium /Optional subjects / Second Languages once selected cannot be changed.
3.Candidates seeking admission into Mathematics,Physics,Chemistry(MPC) combination should secure at least 50% marks in General Mathematics in the qualifying examination. In case of ST & SC Candidates relaxation to the extent of 5% marks will be allowed.
CODE OF CONDUCT
1.Ragging is strictly prohibited.
2.College gates will be closed after 9.00 am.
3.Use of mobile phones/ FM in the college is not allowed as per Government order.
4.Students are not allowed to see visitors during working hours.
5.Students should see the Notice Board regularly.
6.75 % attendance is compulsory.
7.Students should be punctual to their classes.
8.Cleanliness must be maintained in the class rooms and in the college premises.
9.Library should be utilized in free periods.
10.Absolute silence must be maintained in the classrooms and corridors.
11.Students should be dressed neatly and decently.
12.Students should be respectful towards their teachers and elders.

GENERAL FACILITIES
LIBRARY
There is a separate Library for the Intermediate students in the Intermediate building. This library too is well equipped and is used regularly by the students. The time table for issue of cards and books is put up on the notice board and the students are required to follow it. The library timings are from 8.30 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. Students can use the library for reference work during their free time.
GAMES & SPORTS
The department of Physical Education has the facility for in-door games like Table-Tennis, Chess, Shuttle & Caroms and outdoor games like Volley ball, Throw ball & Tennikoit. In addition to these throwing events like Javelin, Discus Shot Put and Jumping events like High jump, Long jump are part of the activities. Inter collegiate competitions are conducted in various games. Certificates and mementoes are given on Sports Day. Students who excel in sports are given chance to take part in Inter- Collegiate, Nationals & University level competitions. Special coaching is also available for games like Volley ball, Table- Tennis , Caroms , Tennicoit and Chess
NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (N.S.S.)
Incharge : Smt. M. Jyothi National Service Scheme is a Voluntary Organization. It inculcates the spirit of voluntary work among students and teaches through sustained community interaction and brings the academic institution closer to society. It shows how knowledge and action combine to produce results.
The college conducts camps with a minimum of 500 N.S.S. Volunteers who actively participate in various programmes. Those who attend camps are given certificates and are also given preference for PG. admission. All the students of Inter and Degree are eligible to join as N.S.S. Volunteers.


NATIONAL CADET CORPS I ANDHRA GIRLS BATTALION (NCC)

N.C.C. Unit was started in the college from the academic year 2001-2002. More than 50 students have enrolled their names in the inaugural year. In addition to our college students, students of Durgabhai Deshmukh Polytechnic College, Narayana Junior College, Ratna Jr. College, Sri Chaitanya, Kakatiya and Pragathi Maha Vidyalaya are assigned this college as their center
COUNSELLING
Our college offers counselling to students to help them face the pressures and strains of the modern times and to cope with the competitive world. Each staff member is allotted a batch of 25- 30 students for counselling. The students discuss their academic and personal problems with their counsellor and receive suitable advice and help. During the Counselling sessions guidance in career options is also given to the students.
MEDICAL FACILITY
Medical facility under a qualified lady doctor is available for the students and staff in the college premises free of cost.
In addition to this the college has tie up with a reputed, recognized Nursing Home to provide Medical facilities to staff and students at concessional rates.
An Annual Medical Checkup is also conducted for students.
CULTURAL CLUB
The cultural club provides an opportunity for students to bring out the latent talents in various arts like music, dance, mimicry and acting in order to maintain a high standard of performance and to promote Indian culture. Classical music, folk songs and dance are encouraged. Film songs and dances are not allowed the programmes conducted by the club. The cultural club is normally inaugurated in the month of September and the inaugural is followed by a cultural programme.
Interested students meet the concerned committee members and register their names for contributing items for the programme.
CONSUMER CO-OPERATIVE STORES
A Consumer Co-operative Stores managed by Staff & students is located in the college premises. It provides stationery and general items at concessional rates. Students are required to purchase note books & Records bearing the college name & emblem from the stores.
GRIEVANCE CELL
Students can approach the Grievance Cell for the redressal of their grievances on both academic and non-academic matters.
HOSTEL
The college has a hostel facility on the Campus to cater to the needs of students coming from rural areas.
GENERAL INFORMATION
A. Identity Card
As soon as the students admission is finalised, she is issued an Identity card on producing her fee receipts. The Identity card for degree students is issued by the Examination Branch and for Intermediate students by the office. It is very important for the student to carry this card with her every day, without which she will not be given her library cards, hall ticket, Memorandum of marks and other important documents.
B. Bus Pass
Intermediate students applying for a Bus Pass should get their forms signed from the concerned members.

C. Attendance
a) Candidates should put in a minimum of 75% attendance in each subject failing which they will not be allowed to appear for the Annual Examination.
b) If a candidate does not attend classes continuously for one month during any part of the year, her name will be struck off from the rolls without intimation.
c) It is compulsory for the students to attend all the monthly tests and Pre –Final Examination conducted by the college.
d. Parent Teacher Meetings are held periodically to enable the parents to monitor the progress of their daughters / wards.
E. Magazine:
In order to encourage and develop the skill of creative writing among the students, the college brings out a students magazine every year. Original articles (Poems, Essays, Short Stories, jokes etc) written by the students in English, Telugu, Hindi, Sanskrit and Urdu are published. Students are required to submit their articles to the concerned members of the Magazine Committee during the month of November.
F. Student Council:
The college has the Student Council to take care of extra curricular activities of the students . The Student Council function under the guidance of Student Advisor.
