An Appeal to the Alumni
Raja Bahadur Venkata Rama Reddy Women's college was started in the year 1954 by Hyderabad Mahila Vidya Sangam a registered society in memory of the Late Raja Bahadur Venkata Rama Reddy in recognition of the yeoman service rendered by him to the cause of education, in particular women’s education and in general when the people of the erstwhile Nizam’s Dominions, especially those hailing from Telangana were in complete darkness as for as literacy was concerned.
The Foundation stone for the college building was laid by the then Prime Minister of India, late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and the college building was inaugurated by the then Vice President of India, Dr.Sarvepally Radha Krishnan.
The college, which was started with a meager enrolment of 59 students pursuing Intermediate and Under Graduate courses in 1954 has grown into a reputed institution with an enrolment of more than 2500 students pursuing Intermediate, under graduate and Post Graduate courses.
The UGC conferred autonomy on the colleges in 1989 in respect of U.G. Courses and it was one among the three affiliated colleges in Osmania University area that were selected for autonomy and was the first Non-Minority College.
Due to the dedicated involvement of persons like late Konda Venkata Ranga Reddy, late Madapati Hanumanth Rao, Late P.Ramachandra Reddy and several others the college could play a pivotal role in providing quality education to girls from rural areas as a premier institution for more than 40 years of its initial existence by providing basic education in conventional courses when it was the need of the society.
However with the passage of time the conventional courses gradually lost relevance and importance. The management rightly recognized the need to have a different approach to education and introduced several U.G. and P.G. courses in emerging fields like Computer Science, Business Management, Micro Biology and Biotechnology during 2003-2004.
It is heartening to note that the management has plans to introduce innovative courses in the fields of Home Science, Pharmacy, Social work, informatics, to equip the girls with knowledge in areas which would be relevant in the days to come.
As an initial step in this direction the college has prepared a master plan to provide multi storied accomodation with carpet area of about 40,000 Sq. feet in place of the existing dilapidated building in the area procured by the college, near the main campus at an estimated cost of Rs 1,50,000/-.
The institution during the past 50 years has produced many persons who have distinguished them selves in the fields of Engineering, Medicine, Administration, Science, Sports and Politics.
Appeal to the alumni and other well wishers of the institution to extend support to the management in the form of valuable suggestions and financial assistance and play positive role, to further its endeavors to remain at the top in the service of society.
