PROFLIE

The Department of Mathematics in R.B.V.R.R Women’s College was established in the year 1962 with only one member and handful of students at PUC level.

The department has steadily grown into a dynamic centre offering Mathematics as an interdisciplinary subject in Bio-Sciences and Computer Science.

The Department of Mathematics has many areas of interest, in a wide range of topics. In order to expose the students to the expertise of the Academia and industry the department of Mathematics conducts extension lectures, seminars and workshops.

Mission

  • To integrate technology into teaching Mathematics,
  • To train students for the Research Projects,
  • To make students from Telugu medium background confident in seminar presentations

Progression

  • In the year 1965 the Department offered Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry combination for B.Sc. I Year E/M and later for B.Sc. I Year T/M .
  • During the year 1969-70 the MPC combination was introduced for intermediate students in both English & Telugu media.
  • Autonomy enabled the department to introduce a new combination Mathematics, Physics, Computers at the B.Sc. level during the year 1989-90.
  • The Department has also designed the syllabus for Mathematics as an additional subject for Degree I year non-Mathematics students.
  • Designed curriculum for practicals with Mathematica, Minitab and TORA Software.
  • The syllabus for B.Sc. I year is recast as per Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in the academic year 2012-13.
  • Designed curriculum for practials with SAGE for I year B.Sc students.
  • Certificate course in Mathematics – “Programming in PYTHON and Mathematics” introduced in academic year 2019-20.
  • Certificate course in Statistics – “Data Analysis using R Software” introduced in academic year 2019-20.

 Statistics

During the year 1995-96 the Department of Mathematics introduced Statistics as one of the      optionals  at U.G. level. A new combination with Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science was offered at B.Sc level

Mathematics as an Inter Disciplinary Course

Department of Mathematics handles courses involving Mathematics for other UG & PG programs

Innovative Practices

  • In this era of globalization and knowledge explosion, with the idea of introducing technology into teaching Mathematics the department introduced practicals in Mathematics at the undergraduate level using the software Mathematica in 2005-06 and in Statistics with Minitab software in the year 2000-01. It is the first college in the two states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to introduce practicals with Software in Mathematics.
  • The goal of the practicals in Mathematics is to help students learn how to use Mathematica to solve problems arising in their fields of study such as Mathematics, Physics, Computers. Department has taken the initiative to introduce Telugu medium students Baraha software which is compatible with Mathematica software.
  • A Mathematics Lab was established with 5 computer systems loaded with the software Mathematica. The number of systems was increased gradually to 30 which are  installed with the software to help all the students to work on the systems comfortably.
  • The goal of the practicals in Mathematics is to help students learn how to use SAGE Software to solve problems arising in their fields of study such as Mathematics, Physics, Computers.
  • Google classes that aims to simplify creating, distributing, and grading assignments in a paperless way. The primary purpose of Google Classroom is to streamline the process of sharing files between teachers and students is introduced for B.Sc & M.Sc students in 2019-20

Curriculum Development:

  • The Curriculum is designed and updated by involving senior academicians, representatives from the Industry and the Students.
