Industrial Visit

The Department of Biotechnology has organized industrial visit for the Biotechnology students on January 9, 2020..The students of B.Sc Biotechnology were taken to the ICRISAT as industrial visit at 9:30am in the morning. The students were accompanied by the teaching and non teaching members of the department in two buses.

After reaching ICRISAT ,Mr. M.M.Sharma sir, Principle scientist of ICRISAT received us with great enthusiasm and lead us to the auditorium of ICRISAT where they have played  two videos on ICRISAT programmes and practices in different villages for the improvement of agriculture and water shed management .The videos possess the information on management of virus  effected plants , role of biotechnology in the production of genetically modified crops and also how the women of kothapet  village were generating income by  practicing vermi composting .

Professor Murthy had taken the students to the gene transfer and genetic engineering laboratory and the concerned person have given the details of the laboratory and also explained the process of how the work is done. Students have also visited museum where they saw the exhibits of hybrid varieties of ground nut, jowar, Bhajra, chick pea and pigeon pea. Students were also taken to the field trip where they showed us the fields of chick pea, pigeon pea and pearl millet with the breeding programmes implemented for the improvement of useful traits and for the development of homozygous cell lines. Students have gained knowledge on plant breeding programmes, genetically modified crops, water shed management, importance of cereals & pulses in the regular diet, plant tissue culture techniques and rain water conservation.

Students have also come to know about the recent advances in plant biotechnology from a closing talk session of Mr. M.M.Sharma sir.

The students were then able to understand the importance of plant tissue culture and genetically modified plants. The trip had come to an end by educating the students about the scopes and future of Biotechnology in the field of medicine, technology and also how it benefits the common people
