A pioneer in the field of education, he took several measures to spread literacy
among the people of the Telangana region and to promote Telugu as the medium of
instruction.
The
education of the backward area of Telangana girls, in particular, received
powerful impetus form him. It is this pioneering spirit of his, which made him
take the first step in establishing a college for women. The college was started
in the year 1954 and is named after him.R.B.V.R.R.Women’s College was founded
by Hyderabad Mahila Vidya Sangham to Translate the dreams of Raja Bahadur Venkat
Rama Reddy, a philanthropist, social reformer and a staunch supporter of
women’s upliftment.
It
was the Raja Bahadur , who as the president of the managing committee of the
Girl’s High School, secured a centrally located land for this college
building. This first step proved to be a grant leap in the field of women’s
education for generations to come. The Raja Bahadur Venkata Rama Reddy women’s
college stands today as a proud testimony of his foresight and interest in the
up liftment and education of women.
The other educational institutions
established by him or with his help and co-operation include Madapati Hanumantha
Rao Girls’ High School and Andhra Vidyalaya for Boys. He also established the
Reedy Hostel in the heart of the city to facilitate students from the districts
to come to Hyderabad to pursue education.
The
autonomous status helped the college to introduce several new degree programmes
with popular subjects like Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Computer
Science, Medical Lab Technology, Electronics and Biochemistry. This has helped
the institution in restructuring the syllabi, thereby giving a new impetus to
the conventional subjects that were on the verge of loosing their demand amongst
the student fraternity. In tune with the changing scenario of modern day trends in Science and Technology a new
combination has been offered at B.Sc. level with Biotechnology, Chemistry and
Bio-Informatics in the academic year 2000-2001. It was the first batch to come
under the semester system right from its inception. The course has been
attracting the brightest students from outside the State also like Meghalaya and
Nepal. It is a self-financing course and the intake of 30 per class has been
increased to 40 in order to meet the rising demands. The cut-off percentage of
marks for admission to the course is 60%. The demand for the course has been on
the rise and the first batch has left the portals of the college in April 2003
with flying colours.
Medical
Lab Technology(MLT) is offered as one of the optional along with Chemistry and
Microbiology at the degree level from the academic year 2003-04. The Board of
studies in Chemistry, Microbiology and an adhoc committee comprising experts in
the field of Medicine finalized the syllabi in the respective subjects. The
Academic Council has made the Intermediate Vocational students also eligible for
admission into the course, keeping in view the several requests made by the
parents and the students of Intermediate vocation course with MLT as an optional
subject. A bridge course in Chemistry is arranged for these students to tide
over their difficulties in grasping Chemistry.
During
the academic year 2004-2005, subjects such as Biochemistry and Electronics at
B.Sc level are introduced. A Language Lab has been established in order to
promote Communicative skills in English. The objective is to equip the students
with a cutting edge to face the challenges of a professional career with
confidence.
As
per the Government orders a new subject ‘Environmental Science’ has been
introduced for all First Year students. The college has constituted QAC and IQAC
to initiate preparation for re-accreditation as per the guidelines sent by the
NAAC.
