UNIT - I
Digital Image fundamentals - Elements of visual perception, Electromagnetic spectrum. Image sensing and acquisition. Sampling and quantitization, relationships between pixels Image enhancement in spatial domain - Grey level transformations, Histogram processing, Image subtraction and average, smoothing, sharpening.
UNIT - II
Image restoration - Noise models, noise only-spatial filtering. Color Image Processing - Fundamentals, models, pseudo color, color transformations, smoothing and sharpening, color segmentation.
UNIT - III
Image Compression - Fundamentals, compression models, information theory, error-free compression, lossy compression, compression standards. Morphological Image Processing - preliminaries, dilation and erosion, basic algorithms, extension to grey scale images.
UNIT - IV
Segementation - Detection of discontinuities, edge linking and boundary detection thresholding, Region-based segmentation, segmentation by morphological watersheds, use of motion in segmentation. Representation and description - reperesentation, boundary descriptors, regional descriptors, principles components for descriptors, relational descriptors.
UNIT - V
Object Recognition - Pattern and pattern classes, decision theoretic models, structural methods. Biometrics - Introduction, Finger scan, iris scan, voice scan, hand scan, retina scan, AFIS, signature scan.
