UNIT - 1


a) Introduction: Organization and the need for management. Factors contributing to the increasing significance of management. Relationship between management theory and practice. Need for management.

b) Management process and functions: Nature and description of management process. Managerial functions planning, organizing, staffing, directing, coordinating and controlling.



UNIT - II

a) Organizational process and concepts: Power and authority. Delegation and decentralization. Concepts of line and staff, nature and structure of organization. Functional, product and matrix organization. Span of management.


b) Leadership dynamics in organizations: Theories of leadership - trait, management grid, transformational, life cycle and path goal theories.



UNIT - III

Decision making process and techniques: nature of managerial decision-making.

Problem and opportunity finding. Rational model and challenges to the rational
model of decision-making. Stages in decision making process.



UNIT - IV

a) Introduction: Information systems, evolution and types. Structure of MIS : Role of MIS, Information support for decision making, planning and control.

b) MIS Development and management: Basic Information Systems, Purchasing, materials planning capacity planning and operation scheduling, Inventory Systems, Personnel Information Systems.MIS for programmed decisions.



UNIT - V

a) Decision Support System: Introduction & Overview, Decision making systems, Data Management Modelling and Model Management, Components, Constructing a Decision Support System and DSS Tools.

b) Executive Support Systems: The Third Wave - The information age, Electronically aided Execution. Cluster Management via Groupware, Group Decision Support System, Expert Systems.
